Old name, new purpose: why we’ve gone back to RNID

Tinnitus Week 2024

YouTube video
TV personality Jamie Laing shares his story.

1 in 7 adults in the UK live with tinnitus. It can be deeply distressing for those who experience severe symptoms. There is currently no cure but, with the right support, it’s possible to find ways to manage it.

This Tinnitus Week, we’re shining a light on the experiences and needs of people with tinnitus, the support RNID can offer and how you can help us find a cure.

My tinnitus journey, with Jamie Laing

TV personality, podcaster and entrepreneur Jamie Laing is working hard at raising awareness of tinnitus and supporting our hunt for a cure. Read Jamie’s story.

“The amazing thing is RNID is doing some incredible work, and they’re trying to raise £12,500 for an amazing campaign. And, so, to anyone watching this right now: donating a fiver – anything you possibly have – will make the world of difference.

To hear silence again… to get rid of the ringing… I would do almost anything.”

Help us and Jamie silence tinnitus today.

What does tinnitus sound like?

Tinnitus sounds different to everyone who has it. Some describe it as hissing, humming, buzzing or whooshing.

This audio clip simulates what tinnitus might sound like to some people. Content warning: the audio clip may be unpleasant or triggering for people who have tinnitus.

The truth about tinnitus

With Richard McKearney, Audiology Adviser at RNID

“One of the biggest myths I often come across is that nothing can be done to help with tinnitus. This is absolutely not true. Health professionals can offer a range of options to help manage tinnitus, including hearing aids for people with hearing loss, sound therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy. Everyone’s tinnitus is different – and different approaches work for different people.

“If you have tinnitus, please download our Tinnitus Guide to find out more about the support available as well as some tips and techniques that can help.”
